POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES: The Controller oversees the daily operations of the Corporate Accounting department and other assigned functions, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and state and federal laws and regulations. This role includes overseeing the preparation of all required financial statements according to GAAP, including reports for internal and external use and for audit purposes. Additionally, the Controller prepares, compiles, and coordinates annual financial reports and audit activities, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.

The position involves designing, establishing, and maintaining an organizational structure and staffing to accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives, as well as recruiting, employing, training, supervising, and evaluating staff. The Controller oversees Company internal audits, reports results to senior management, and implements corrections and improvements as required. They establish and implement short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures, and monitor, evaluate, and recommend accounting system effectiveness and necessary changes for improvement.

Advising staff on the improvement of current fiscal procedures, implementing new fiscal policies, and training accounting and administrative personnel are key responsibilities. This role also oversees and performs periodic reviews of the general ledger system, modifying, adding, deleting, and reconciling accounts as required to ensure accurate financial records. Furthermore, the role includes overseeing the Company’s internal controls and implementing corrections and improvements as required.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting along with demonstrated leadership experience with at least 5-7 years in a managerial role, successfully leading and developing finance teams to achieve departmental and organizational goals. The ability to foster a cooperative work environment, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate and work effectively within the organization are essential.

The Controller must have the ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. They should be able to develop and implement effective fiscal/accounting policies and financial controls, and possess knowledge of financial recordkeeping procedures, laws, regulations, and standards. Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures are important.

Knowledge of all facets of non-budget accounting and finance as applicable to AGNE. The ability to plan, implement, and direct a varying range of accounting and associated information systems projects and initiatives is also essential. Proficiency in using various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate, and/or format data and/or reports is preferred.

The knowledge of software to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections. The ability to interpret audit information and institute financial policy, procedure, and/or operational corrections and modifications is critical, and a strong understanding of GAAP. A CPA is preferred, but not required.
