A 45 year-old, small, family-owned manufacturing company

The individual in this role works in a dynamic work environment, requiring flexibility to shift priorities to work on a variety of tasks to design, integrate and improve production processes, products and documentation with an eye towards quality, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.

Previous Education/Experience

  • BS Degree in Engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in related discipline, industry, etc.
  • CAD Mechanical design, tolerances
  • Experience with manufacturing techniques and procedures are required to build first article products as necessary, as well as ensure that proposed designs are capable of being easily and safely manufactured.
  • Familiarity and aptitude in Electronic production processes.
  • Experience using 3D printing
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge/experience a plus
  • Suitable combination of education and experience will be considered

  • Knowledge of, and ability to safely use, CNC and/or manual machinery (i.e. routers, lathes, milling machines, etc.). Able to determine operations necessary and setup required.

Job Responsibilities (E=Essential Function)

The duties and responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer include, but are not limited to the following:

E: Design and documentation of projects using 2D and 3D modeling software (Solidworks)

E: Interface with Engineering and Production to ensure new products are designed for ease of manufacturing as much as possible; introduce new procedures and processes into the production environment

E: Interface with Sales and Marketing on new and existing designs and to supply system brochure and literature materials (i.e. CAD drawings)

E: Design products to optimize assembly, test and manufacturability while adhering to company guidelines for applicable industry standards

E: Prepare documents according to engineering standards for release to manufacturing such as BOMs, prototype assembly drawings, wire diagrams, and production prints

E: Hold design review meetings and participate in design reviews and engineering meetings as required (DFMEA, FEA)

E: Develop and maintain design and prototype schedules

E: Interface with vendors throughout the design and prototype phase

E: Evaluate requests for quotes, new products and design changes

  • Recommend corrective or preventive actions to assure or improve product quality, system throughput and/or reduce product costs (using tools such as time studies, etc.)
  • Identify and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes and/or equipment using cutting edge technologies.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts
  • Work closely with purchasing, vendors, and QC to ensure accurate parts and schedules
  • Train production personnel on product assembly
  • Assist with procedures for optimizing Contract Manufacturing processes, as needed
  • Assist with maintenance and implementation of production test jigs and related equipment
  • Assist with quality issues and the diagnoses of issues pertaining to non-functional product on the production floor
  • Report any issues into the issue tracking database for evaluation; investigate any ongoing issues for closure
  • Provide inside factory technical support
  • Assist with writing of ISO Departmental Procedures
  • Participate in the ECO process
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned

Accountability and Reporting

This position reports to the Engineering Manager, but may take direction from the Chief Operating Officer, and work in collaboration with the Production Manager, as well..

Staff Directly Supervised

None. However, this individual will be required to direct/advise/train production personnel to help effect change.
