The Shelter Direct Support Staff provides critical support to young adults in the Manchester, NH community. The Shelter Direct Support Staff will work in a team to support young adults between the ages of 18-25 years old in staying at Waypoint’s Emergency Shelter. The Emergency Shelter is part of programming that provides 24/7 care to youth and young adults that are experiencing homelessness or are at risk thereof. The Shelter staff utilize a Positive Youth Development approach, employ Harm Reduction strategies, and are Trauma-Informed.

Shelter Direct Support Staff responsibilities include providing overnight support, building trusting relationships with clients, providing crisis intervention, and making connections to day-time services. Additional responsibilities include the ability to complete documentation, maintain files and provide intakes and assessments.

One year of relevant experience (lived experience and expertise looked upon favorably) and a High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience with vulnerable populations, sexual health, mental health, and/or substance use preferred. Candidates must have the ability to work on a team. The ideal candidate will have good organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, enthusiastic, passionate about working with young adults, creative, innovative, bold, courageous, and brave.

Waypoint has been providing services to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness and housing instability for over 45 years in the Manchester NH area based on recognized needs in the community. We are continuing to expand, and you will be joining a team that will learn, impact, grow and succeed together. You will be part of a Continuum of staff in many communities throughout New Hampshire.

Candidates will be asked to engage in a criminal background check. A driver’s license is preferred but not required for this position. If a candidate has a driver’s license, they will be asked to engage in a motor vehicle record check and have auto insurance that meets agency standards.
